My name is Patricia. I am a 30 year-old Filipino mother of 1 who is very much interested in the art of preparing baon, specifically bento-styled baon. This blog is all about my adventures in making baon for both myself and my 6 year-old daughter who has just started grade school.
What is baon? It is the Filipino term for packed lunch, usually in connection with schoolkids. Thus, Baon Ko Bento literally means “My packed lunch is a bento.”
I have been bringing baon to school since I was myself in preschool, prepared by my mom. My meals were usually not so imaginative; the usual hotdogs, ham, fried chicken, and chicken nuggets, along with the ubiquitous white rice. I have also brought baon occasionally through my working years.
Now that my daughter has started going to school, I want her to be able to bring baon that’s not only nutritious, but also interesting enough for her to want to eat. My main inspiration comes from the Japanese art of bento-making.
I have started seriously cooking only early last year (2010). This blog will also feature some of the recipes that I come up with, and any other cooking adventures (and mishaps!) that I can document. I have also recently discovered the excitement of baking, and that my oven is still actually working. It also has the occasional review of restaurants that my husband and I visit.
